Why Is Baseball The Best Sport? (15 Boggling Reasons)
People often praise the sport they do as the best one in the world because they enjoy it the most as they have chosen it. So, even baseball and its superiority are arguable, but I have many pointers below why baseball is the best sport over others, as you will soon find out.
Baseball is the best sport because of many benefits and features such as unique fan culture, big ballparks, stylish uniforms, celebrity opening pitches, post-game fireworks on important games, and American values. It’s also a hybrid between individual and team sport, requiring many skills.
There certainly is more to baseball than the ones mentioned, but I think those are the creme of the best baseball features. Now, let’s proceed further and dig deeper into the subjects mentioned and others left out. Believe me; it’s going to be fun!

1. Incredible Fan Culture
As a fan myself, the first thing I need to point out is the fan culture. I can’t stress this enough the vibes when watching a game are beyond amazing because of other fans, the players, snacks, and the overall atmosphere.
A great thing about baseball games is choosing the atmosphere that varies where you are seated. This gives you a chance to tailor your experience, although some seats are very expensive.
You can occasionally see some fun stuff from the gigantic field monitors, which is the cherry on top of the cake, and when a fan, perhaps yourself, catches a game ball, it always turns up the vibes even more!
If you haven’t been to a baseball game yet, I highly encourage you to go!
Check out this video of the greatest MLB fan moments and see what I’m talking about!
There are other things related to baseball culture too. For example, most people know how baseball and gum connect together. There is baseball-specific gum called big league chew, and you can see baseball players blowing bubblegum balls in movies and tv series, among other things. There are dozens of things like that too, which in my opinion, makes baseball even more special.
2. Stunning Ballparks
The ballparks, baseball stadiums, whatever you want to call them, are connected to the fan culture, but it’s a separate thing.
The stadiums are gigantic with tens of thousands of seats, massive screens, and various seating areas, and they look so amazing that you feel amazing.
There are 30 stadiums in use by the MLB teams, and they vary in size and awesomeness. If I had to choose the best-looking one, Oracle Park and Coors Field are my favorite.
If you’re lucky, the stadium you will watch the game will have some amazing additional views such as city skylines or even the sea.
3. Stylish Uniforms
If you were to throw a party with an American theme, you could almost guarantee that someone would show up in a baseball uniform. If the outfit is good enough for a party, it’s safe to say that it must be pretty good-looking, especially when talking about a sports uniform.
That’s as true as they come. Baseball uniforms are extremely stylish with caps, tight baseball pants, and fitting jerseys. Some players also choose to wear chains and eye black, enhancing the look further.
You may even spot baseball players wearing wrist tape, and there are many benefits why they do that. All of this enhances the overall look!
When you are on the field wearing a baseball uniform, you will look good, and when you look good, you will play well!
4. History Isn’t Forgotten
Baseball values history and keeps it at the heart of the game even to this day. Baseball goes back to the American civil war when it became the number one activity for recreational purposes amongst the soldiers. This made people unite, and the sport was brought back to their families and towns after the war.
Speaking of civil war and its reasons, the first African-American baseball player in the MLB was Jackie Robinson in 1947. This was a huge deal at the time, and it was one of the reasons that skyrocketed the clearance of racial segregation in professional sports and overall life.
In fact, it was so big of a deal that Jackie Robinson was featured as a comic book hero too. Anyways, baseball is a sport of the American people and values its history.
5. Baseball Is Nearly Always On
Baseball varies from other sports quite drastically regarding the game amount per season. There are a whopping 162 games per team in a Major League Baseball season, and the season lasts from April to September. There is approximately one day off every ten days during the baseball season.
During these six months of the baseball season, you can watch baseball nearly all the time, which isn’t possible in most other sports.
Oh, and don’t forget the postseason when baseball is also played, so it’s nearly a year-long thing. Pretty awesome, regardless of whether you watch the game live or from home.
6. It’s a Family Sport
Baseball is a family sport for both playing and watching. You can easily play baseball with a family, considering that you can get a few more people to join, as most people won’t have a family of 18 people to form both teams. Time with family is precious, and what is a better way to spend it than during sports.
Another great thing is that you can watch baseball with the whole family too. When comparing baseball to a sport such as Freestyle Fighting, that wouldn’t be appropriate for the youngest nor pleasant for the older either, without talking about doing it with your family.
7. Baseball Fits All Sizes
When we compare baseball to other sports like ice hockey, soccer, boxing, and so on, the physical fitness level doesen’t need to be as high. As a result, thicker and slower players can play baseball even at highly competitive levels, even in the MLB, whereas an overweight person can’t be in NHL.
Because of this, there are many fat baseball players, especially when compared to other sports. I don’t say that being overweight is good, but it’s important that a highly reputable sport such as baseball is available for everyone!
Looking in the opposite direction, baseball players don’t need to own bodybuilder-level muscles either. Baseball is a sport of many skills, and even batting is more about technique than raw strength, even though it does help.
8. American Values
When you even think about baseball, you will probably think about the United States. Baseball is the national sport of America and, thus, the greatest sport in the states!
Baseball is a sport deriving from America. It’s a sport of all races and can be played anywhere with an open field. All of this sounds very American, and that’s what it is. The sport doesen’t require massive investment ts either, so practically everyone can play, from the working class to the elite.
In addition, hot dogs, sausages, brats, corn dogs, and of course, beer are a must when you attend a baseball game. All of which is very American!
9. You Can Make a Career Out of It
When it comes to different sports, the earning possibilities vary drastically. For example, most professional lacrosse players have day jobs as the salary isn’t as high as needed for a full-time income without other income sources. Only a few will earn a lot of money.
However, baseball is a different breed.
The top baseball players can earn more than $40 million annually, which could provide for hundreds of people per year. That being said, you can definitely earn good money from baseball even when not reaching the millions.
This is very enticing for many people as baseball has so many other benefits and attractions that doing it for a living would be a dream come true. This is yet another reason for the greatness of baseball!
10. Opening Pitches
Opening throws are a unique aspect of baseball as something similar is rarely seen in other sports. The first pitch of the game is a baseball tradition thrown by a person of great importance or fame. These include politicians, famous athletes, actors, influencers, or people with power.
The game’s opening pitch isn’t counted to the points, but it signals the start of the game, season, or an important game.
Opening pitches are probably my favorite thing when watching a baseball game. With that being said, I highly encourage you to watch the funniest opening pitches ever!
11. The Sport of Many Skills
Various skills are needed in baseball, but the basic skills are batting, running, throwing, catching, and fielding.
These skills are very different, so it gives baseball a lot of versatility which is always fun.
If we compare baseball to a sport such as darts, there are so many more aspects, skills, and things to consider that it won’t get boring, whereas darts can get boring fast, at least if you ask me.
Another benefit of having a sport with many skills is improving as you go in many areas of life. In baseball, you will need and improve strength, hand-eye coordination, explosive speed, cardiovascular endurance, and you name it!
Those skills come very handy in every aspect of life outside of baseball!
12. Hybrid of Team & Individual Sports
When looking at sports such as soccer or football are team sports, or tennis and badminton, which are single sports, baseball is a bit of both.
In baseball, you will do everything alone, from throwing to batting, but you will require the aid of your team to succeed and to get victorious.
This is a great balance of what I’m personally looking for in a sport because both ways are fun, and it’s amazing to get both in baseball!
13. No Time Limit
Ice hockey is three rounds of 20 minutes; soccer is two rounds of 45 minutes; however, baseball games are nine innings with no set time. That being said, baseball games can last indefinitely, in theory.
When it comes to the average baseball game times, it is around 3 hours, a little more. That is considerably longer than most sports, which can be a downside for a few, but it’s a benefit for me.
The long game times benefit me because I love baseball, and I can watch it longer that way. If watching live, you can have an amazing time, eat snacks, and drink beer longer. If watching from home, you can multitask while looking at baseball or enjoy a full game as a whole.
When going to a hockey game, it’s over, and it’s over fast, which isn’t as fun.
14. Baseball Is Fun
Baseball is a lot of fun, and there are many reasons I like it so much. It’s played outdoors, which allows for fresh air and natural sunlight. That cheers me up and many others.
In baseball, you will play with many great teammates, which allows you to socialize, network, and even have friendly competition when batting.
You get to bat, which is my favorite part of baseball, but throwing and catching are a lot of fun too. Your fitness level remains good, which I value above many other things. I could keep going for a long time, but you get the point. Baseball is a lot of fun, which is why it’s the greatest sport too.
15. Post Game Fireworks
To finish this article, I decided to put post-game fireworks last as they are shown at the end of baseball games, independence day, and certain other days.
Post-game fireworks are fired on different occasions, depending on the team. Some popular times include each Friday’s home game, last game of the season, home victory, and you name it.
Most people love fireworks, me included, and it shows the superior level American sports and baseball are compared to others. It isn’t common to see actual fireworks after a sports game, so in my opinion, that is a sealing celebration of why baseball is the greatest sport of all.
See for yourself!
My Favorite Baseball Equipment
Thanks for reading this article. I hope it brought you great value that you can implement into your own life! Below you can find my favorite baseball bat, baseballs, and a glove that I think will take your game to the next level!
- Bat: My favorite baseball bat is the Easton Project 3 Fuze. This bat has a composite end cap, reduced post-impact vibrations, balanced swing weight for the fastest swing speed, and a carbon core that makes this bat perform very well! As I’m not a professional baseball player, I like to use alloy bats as you can swing faster and hit further.
- Baseballs: Rawlings Competition Grade Practice Balls are my choice for something to hit. I love these balls because they fit all levels of play, so regardless of who you are playing with, you can use them. They come in a 6 or 12 balls box, and you can choose between raised or flat seams! I prefer flat seams as the balls tend to fly further!
- Glove: When it comes to the glove, my choice is the Rawlings Sandlot Glove. This glove is available for both lefties and righties. The same glove is also available for infielders, outfielders, pitchers, catchers, and 1B mitt. This glove has a nice vintage look, and it’s made from oiled leather. It has palm pads that protect your hand from impact, and it is pre-broken-in, so you are good to go as soon as you have it! A glove I’m proud to recommend.
- Fan Equipment: If you’re a fan more than a player, you don’t want to miss Fan Equipment by Fanatics. You can find items from various sports that bear your favorite team’s logo, such as jerseys, gift ideas, or other surprising things.
