How Should Tennis Skirts Fit? (& Why They Are Attractive)
When trying any clothing, it’s always a hassle to get the right fitting one. This is especially true with jeans that I never seem to find a perfectly fitting pair. The same thing can apply to tennis skirts as they need to fit well to be comfortable on you in a way, so you don’t lose any focus on discomfort.
In this article, I’ll explain how tennis skirts should fit, why female tennis players tuck them in, and why they are considered attractive. So, how should tennis skirts fit?
The tennis skirt length range Is often between 11 to 15 inches (28-38cm), so choose whichever you find the best. However, the WTA rules state that tennis skirts can be mid-thigh length at minimum, no shorter. In addition, you should get a skirt with undershorts that should fit snug but not too tight.
Skirts are used in tennis because they are loose, allow airflow, and don’t come in the way of natural movement. The good thing about skirts is that it’s harder to land on one that doesen’t fit at all, unlike jeans. Oh, and the shorter the tennis skirt, the more you can benefit from the mentioned features. However, an 11-inch skirt might not be for everybody when a longer skirt is perfectly fine.
Finding the right tennis skirt fit is easy; you need to decide the length, which is measured from the top of the waistband down to the lowest area of the center on the backside.
Also, don’t forget to look at measurement charts for the undershorts, as it’s important to get the right fit for those. The size charts include the waist, hip, and length measurements.
There are many reasons why tennis skirts have undershorts, such as so your undergarments don’t show and pockets where you can store tennis balls and other personal items. To recap, follow these instructions;
- Choose the right tennis skirt length for you (11 to 15inches)
- Get a skirt with undershorts
- Undershorts should fit snug, not too tight.
You can’t go wrong with the tennis skirt selection with these instructions!

Are Tennis Skirts Supposed to Be Tight?
There are various tennis skirt models where others are tighter than others. That being said, how tight should tennis skirts be, or should they be tight at all?
Moveability and comfort should go hand in hand with tennis skirts. Therefore, tennis skirts should be loose to allow maximum movement without interference. However, the undershorts beneath the skirts should be snug and secure but not too tight.
The same principle goes with many other things when you think about it. You don’t want the skirt to be too loose, so it would fall or be insecurely on you; however, it can’t squeeze your thighs either as it would be super uncomfortable.
Not all tennis skirts are equal when ignoring the undershorts, as there are many different models of skirts. I’ll explain the three most common ones below.
1.Pleated Tennis Skirt
Pleated skirts are the most common style of tennis skirts, and they allow the best movement. Most people say that they are the most stylish, and I must agree. If you’re unsure of your style, go with pleated!
Oh, and I recommend checking out the high-waisted models such as the Eleloveph Women’s 13inch Tennis Skirt for the best secure feel!
2. A-line Tennis Skirt
A-line tennis skirts such as the Apriddeo High Waisted A-Line Skirt are the second most popular style of them all. They aren’t as flashy as the pleated option, but they are great nonetheless.
The name of a-line skirts come from their shape as it is more narrow from the top and tends to widen towards the hem, forming a shape of A!
The benefit of a wider hem is that it won’t come in the way of your movement, increasing both comfort and performance. They are very stylish as well if you’re into that casual fashion.
3. Straight Tennis Skirt
Straight skirts are for you if you want a tighter skirt along your whole legs. People with narrower legs like straight tennis skirts more than other styles, as they won’t restrict them as much as a person with thicker things.
If you want to maximize your movement on the court no matter what, I wouldn’t recommend straight skirts. However, they are often slit to allow more movement than a fully full straight skirt.
If you want more coverage and don’t like that the hem does up and down all the time, then a straight skirt such as the Baleaf Straight Tennis Skirt will work for you perfectly.
Why Do Female Tennis Players Tuck Their Skirts?
If you have watched any female tennis matches, especially WTA matches, then you might have noticed that they sometimes tuck their skirts under their undershorts. Why is that?
First, tucking the fabric in on a hot day, so it doesen’t touch the skin will help to cool off. Second, if it’s windy, it can be tucked in to prevent it from blowing up. Third, it can be tucked in by accident when adding or removing a ball from the undershorts pockets.
As you can see, there are more than one reasons why women tennis players might be tucking in the skirt. Next time you see it happening, think about the circumstances. Are the temperatures outside extremely high, or has the player been working hard, Is it windy outside, or does it look unintentional?
By looking at the circumstances, you can determine why the player tucked in the skirt at that time.
Why Are Tennis Skirts So Attractive?
Both men and women find tennis skirts extremely attractive, and it shouldn’t be a surprise. They are as material as the next piece of clothing, such as t-shirts or jeans, so why are they considered so charming?
Tennis skirts are so attractive because they are feminine and reveal just the right amount of skin. Tennis skirts follow one’s movement in a way that can give it a charming and almost magical look.
However, there is a fine line between an attractive tennis skirt and a tacky one. Too short tennis skirt doesen’t look nearly as good and isn’t appropriate for sports.
The minimum tennis skirt length set by the WTA is a great one as the rules make it impossible to wear a tacky skirt.
Also, some people may get awkward by wearing a tennis skirt as they don’t like to reveal any skin. That is perfectly fine, and luckily there are various other alternatives such as shorts, leggings, and even joggers! However, you can’t wear joggers in professional tennis.
An equal or even greater number of people can get awkward and creepy by staring at a tennis player wearing a skirt, which isn’t the right way people should look at a tennis skirt. Tennis skirts are attractive and feminine, but no tennis players should be objectified by wearing one.
That being said, you can wear a tennis skirt if you feel comfortable and attractive in it, or you can choose a piece of clothing from the various options available, and that’s equally cool!
My Favorite Tennis Equipment
Thanks for reading this article. I hope it brought you great value that you can implement into your own life! Below you’ll find my top tennis equipment recommendations would like.
- Racket: My preferred tennis racket is the Wilson Ultra 100 V3. This racket is made from graphite and carbon fiber, making it durable, firm, and easy to swing. The racket weighs 300g, making it lightweight yet not too lightweight to generate power. The racket’s main benefit is power. I like to add multifilament strings to the racket, such as Wilson NXT Soft 16 (recommended tension 52lb/23.5kg), because they are comfortable and soft on the arm with a great feel to the game.
- Tennis balls: Best tennis balls are always pressurized, and I like them having extra-duty felt, which is fit for hard court play. I like Penn Championship Tennis Balls, and so does the ITF because these balls are approved for competitive play. So yes, these are the real deal.
- Tennis shoes: I can’t stress enough the importance of comfortable and supporting shoes. ASICS Gel-Resolution 8 tennis shoes are unique because the balance between durability and support mixed with comfort is something out of the ordinary.
- Fan Equipment: If you’re a fan more than a player, you don’t want to miss Fan Equipment by Fanatics. You can find items from various sports that bear your favorite team’s logo, such as jerseys, gift ideas, or other surprising things.
