Do Baseball Caps Make You Look Older? (& Why To Wear One)
I have heard the stories about caps and hats making you look younger and older. This may depend on the hat and face but in general; a hat will have either outcome.
As a sports-loving site, Racket Rampage has dived deep into the question of whether baseball caps make you look older or not? So, which way is it?
Generally, a baseball cap won’t make you look older. In fact, a baseball cap might make you look younger than you are because teenagers and young adults widely use them. However, a hat such as a flat cap or fedora can make you look older.
As a young adult myself, I wear baseball caps from time to time. Well, it’s a dad hat (learn the difference), but it belongs to the same category.
Because baseball caps are often connected to youngsters, a middle-aged person will look younger when wearing one. There are exceptions, though.
For example, if a youngster has a more mature lower half of the face than the upper (forehead area & hair), a baseball cap can, in fact, make you look older. It’s more common that one makes you look younger, but if you are young, to begin with, it can have an aging effect.
The hat has a drastic effect on that as well. Generally, a black, one-colored simple baseball cap would make one look much older than a white one with a baseball team’s logo.
So, why do so many people wear baseball caps? Well, there is more than one, so let’s look at that next.

Why Wear a Baseball Cap?
When thinking about why someone wears a baseball cap, it can be one of so many. However, there are the most popular practical and preference reasons that I have listed below.
1. Fashion
One of the biggest reasons people wear baseball caps is fashion and style. Usually, when a person doesen’t have a splashing designer style or a clear vision or care for fashion, a baseball cap shows on.
Personally, I wear a cap in the summer because my style is kind of basic with nothing special about it. I have noticed that it’s the same as many others. It’s a guy’s hat, and that’s that. Hah.
It’s also a way to express yourself and your style. There are many different baseball caps, each one fitting to a slightly different style. These include sporty snapbacks, street style such as the 59Fifty, hipster caps, and you name it.

2. Comfort
Hat’s are comfortable to wear, cozy, and can give you a sense of protection. When you wear a stylish hat that you like and fits perfectly on your head, it can give you a confidence boost that is comfortable and great.
A baseball cap will also provide protection and temperature control on a hot day, which takes us to the next subject.
3. Protection
Baseball caps do have a practical use which is protection from the sun. This includes both heat and light.
First of all, the baseball cap bill will provide shade and block sunlight from your eyes. This prevents sun damage if you expose your eyes too much to the sunlight without any protection.
Second, the hat will protect your scalp from direct sunlight which can get quite hot, especially if you have dark hair.
A cap will also lower the risk of skin cancer. Too much UV radiation from the sun can damage the DNA in your skin cells. This can cause out-of-control cell growth if it gets damaged too much, leading to skin cancer.
4. Temperature control
Did you know that a baseball cap can keep you cool? You would think that extra material on your head on a hot day could make you hotter, and it can, but it can also make you cooler.
This requires a specific kind of hat. A thick, black hat with no perforation would make your head hotter.
However, a cap that is light in color, made from the right materials such as cotton or polyester, and included with some mesh materials such as trucker hats will make you cooler on a hot day.
5. Support
Of course, there are all the team snapbacks and baseball caps. You can find baseball, basketball, ice hockey, football, and probably every other sport there are and their logo caps.
A logo cap is a great accessory to wear when rooting for your favorite team on the fan crowd. It’s also a great way to let everyone know your favorite team when walking down the street and all the other daily activities in our lives.
You can feel pride when wearing a cap that bears your favorite team’s logo.
Then some caps support an important cause, such as cancer awareness and other similar things found in our world.
6. Disguise
Last but not least, disguise purposes. A baseball cap can make you look younger if that’s something you want, and in some cases, it can also make you look older.
The cap’s brim will cast a shadow upon your eyes that can hide your dark circles under your eyes or a bald sport regardless of how big or small.
These can be our insecurities or just something you wish to hide, and a baseball cap is a great way to do so.
Why Do Old Men Wear Baseball Caps?
The vast majority of people wearing baseball caps are below 30 years old. However, from time to time, you will run onto an elderly wearing a baseball cap which makes you think, why? Many other hats are more socially acceptable for older generations, so what makes one wear a baseball cal?
Older men can wear baseball caps for various reasons, but the most likely one is that they like wearing one like younger people. Other reasons include protection from the sunlight and heat, keeping in touch with the good old days, and looking younger.
As already discussed, a baseball cap often haves a younging effect on one’s looks, especially when older than 25. This can be a great benefit for older people and annoying for young adults that often want to look mature.
The reasons why older men wear baseball caps are similar to why other people wear them, but they’re usually are different reasons below the surface.
Should Grown Men Wear Baseball Caps?
I was surprised to learn that so many people think those grown men shouldn’t wear baseball caps as it supposedly makes one look ridiculous and childish. Then it got me thinking, is there any truth to that?
Generally, grown men can and should wear baseball caps if they so wish. A baseball cap is a hat as the next one, which has many practical benefits. However, the fact should be acknowledged that baseball caps are connected with the younger generation and can make a grown man look childish or immature.
Whether it does have a negative effect as such widely depends on the other things the grown man is wearing and his overall appearance. There is nothing wrong with having a unique style, even if it isn’t common with the same generation.
Still, if a grown man wears a suit or a baseball cap that doesn’t fit well with his appearance, it can make him look childish. The immature aspect will solely depend on how he will act. If he acts like he’s 16 years old even when the real age is 30, it’s probably very see-through and immature.
However, if the baseball cap fits well with their appearance and he acts like a person of his age, it doesen’t look weird or immature.
Is Wearing a Hat Backwards Cool?
When talking about baseball caps, you can’t ignore the topic of wearing them backward. Most people wear it normally, but you see people with a backward cap. Is that cool or lame?
Wearing a hat backward is cool as it has a light and not taking things too seriously vibe. Some people say that wearing a hat backward gives out an intelligent and childish feel, but the people think that are generally taking things too seriously and that’s not good for mental health.
Judging other people on how they dress feels like a very heavy and unpleasant way to live. Wearing a hat backward will also protect one’s neck from the sun, give a clear vision while protecting the scalp, and a fresh, youthful appearance.
My Favorite Baseball Equipment
Thanks for reading this article. I hope it brought you great value that you can implement into your own life! Below you can find my favorite baseball bat, baseballs, and a glove that I think will take your game to the next level!
- Bat: My favorite baseball bat is the Easton Project 3 Fuze. This bat has a composite end cap, reduced post-impact vibrations, balanced swing weight for the fastest swing speed, and a carbon core that makes this bat perform very well! As I’m not a professional baseball player, I like to use alloy bats as you can swing faster and hit further.
- Baseballs: Rawlings Competition Grade Practice Balls are my choice for something to hit. I love these balls because they fit all levels of play, so regardless of who you are playing with, you can use them. They come in a 6 or 12 balls box, and you can choose between raised or flat seams! I prefer flat seams as the balls tend to fly further!
- Glove: When it comes to the glove, my choice is the Rawlings Sandlot Glove. This glove is available for both lefties and righties. The same glove is also available for infielders, outfielders, pitchers, catchers, and 1B mitt. This glove has a nice vintage look, and it’s made from oiled leather. It has palm pads that protect your hand from impact, and it is pre-broken-in, so you are good to go as soon as you have it! A glove I’m proud to recommend.
- Fan Equipment: If you’re a fan more than a player, you don’t want to miss Fan Equipment by Fanatics. You can find items from various sports that bear your favorite team’s logo, such as jerseys, gift ideas, or other surprising things.
