Difference Between T20 and T20i Cricket? (Full Explanation)

A test match in T20i aims to evaluate a teams’ endurance and eligibility. What Is T20 Cricket All About?

T20 is more of a shortened version of the game drawing the overs down to 20 overs with about 75 to 80 minutes. This duration has to be per every inning. An inning with about 30 minutes breaks in between the innings.

What Are The Top Rules In T20 Cricket?

In T20 cricket, a bowler can only bowl a maximum of four overs per game, and each over carries run penalties.  As a batsman at the fall of a wicket, you have 90 seconds to get to the crease.

These rules are subject to change from time to time depending on the immediate tournament or world cup cricket game. However, currently, some of T20’s top rules are:

• Each time can only have 20 overs.
• A bowler cannot have more than four overs.
• Only five-fielders can be on the outside of a circle by a batsman’s leg side.
• The opponents automatically get six extra runs for every bowl after 75 minutes if a fielding team fails to start their 20th over bowl within 75 minutes.
• The first six overs allow only two fielders to be out of the 30-yard circle; during the power play.

Take note of this you should know that if a T20 match ends with tied scores and it’s not a friendly game, the umpire decides on breaking the tie with a one-over for each fielding team. So your team and the opponent nominate three batsmen and a single bowler to play side by side in a mini-match. The team with the highest scores wins the game.

What Is The Difference Between T20 And T20i Cricket?

T20 and T20i maintain the same rules and regulations. However, their slight difference comes in their definitions. So a T20 cricket refers to a tournament between two domestic fielding teams. 

While T20i is a match between two international teams that are also members of the International Cricket Council.

In addition, when evaluating a player for a T20 match, their statistics are based on both T20 and T20i forums. But in the case of evaluating a player for T20i, the player’s info is considered as a national team player only.

Besides monitoring and organizing T20 games, there are also cricket boards that oversee them. On the other hand, the T20i tournament is run by the International Cricket Council in the presence of an umpire.

How Long Is The Innings Break In T20i

A full T20i game takes about three hours with each inning, similar to first and second halves in football, lasting for not more than 90 minutes. However, there’s always a legal10 –minutes break after the first inning.

These set periods that also apply for a T20 match are quite different from a usual cricket match. The latter lasts for an average of 7 to 8.5 hours in a single match day. So the T20 and T20i matches have reduced hours from a typical cricket match.
