Will A Table Tennis Table Fit In A Car/Minivan/SUV/Truck?
Table tennis is a great, fun, and challenging sport, and its equipment is quite minimal. However, the table can be hard to move, especially if the distance is so long that you need a car.
Luckily, there are cars, trucks, vans, and you name it from any size, so if you can’t fit a table tennis table to another, you will get to the next.
In this article, I will tell you the trunk sizes of different kinds of motor vehicles and the dimensions of a table tennis table, so you can make a calculated and educated decision whether your table will fit in a car.
Depending on your motor vehicle, a table tennis table can fit inside. You might need to remove seats and dismantle the table for minivans. To SUV’s and trucks, the table will fit more easily. The table tennis table’s dimensions are 274×152.5×76 cm. Measure your motor vehicle and act accordingly.
That’s easier said than done. Well, don’t worry, let’s dig deeper into the subject and see your transporting options and take a quick look at different motor vehicles that would be best suited for this.
But before we do that, you need to understand the dimensions of a table tennis table to measure the space accordingly.

What are the dimensions of a table tennis table
Nearly all table tennis tables are 274cm long, 152.5cm wide, and 76cm high. When you hear those dimensions, it starts to sound hard to fit into a motor vehicle; however, you can dismantle the table as we’ll get to that later.
Those are the standard dimensions of a full-sized table tennis table, and most of the tables are. However, many kinds of table tennis tables differ in size and features, so you need to examine your own before transporting them.
Now, let’s take a closer look at the most common motor vehicles people have and will use to fit a ping pong table inside.
What to keep in mind about different types of motor vehicles?
There are 4 main types of cars people are using. Let’s start with the most common one.
City car
Most people have normal cars, also called city cars, that don’t really have any other storage space than the trunk. However, there are slightly bigger city cars with large trunks and the ability to lower the back seats. In this case, you might be able to fit a table tennis table inside if you can dismantle the table into 2 pieces and remove the legs.
However, be prepared to be disappointed because it just might be too small. If this is the case, you can transport the table over your car in a roof rack.
Minivan
A minivan is a very popular motor vehicle type as well, and many families have one. If you are one of the lucky ones, you probably will fit your ping pong table inside. Take a look at the standard minivan dimensions and compare them to the dimensions of a table tennis table.
- Length- 4500 mm
- Width- 1800 mm
- Base width- 1500 mm
- Height- 1800 mm
Now, a standard minivan is nearly 30cm wider than a table tennis table, so it should fit in. When it comes to the 274cm long table tennis table, you can often remove the different halves, making each half only 137cm long.
You will probably need to lower the back seats, but in most cases, you should be able to fit the table inside. It won’t be roomy, I’ll tell you that, but at least you will get it done.
SUV
An SUV is a kind of in the middle of a city car and a minivan. When it comes to cargo space, a minivan has much more of it than an SUV, so fitting a table tennis table inside of an SUV will be harder.
Again, this is a matter of how many seats you can lower and how well you can dismantle your table. If you have a three-row SUV, then lowering the two rows of seats will most certainly give you the room needed for a ping pong table, especially if you can separate the halves.
The only way to be 100% certain is to measure your cargo space in width and length and look at your table to see how well you can dismantle it.
Truck
There are so many kinds of trucks, and the bigger ones will certainly fit a ping pong table inside. However, I’m referring to a pickup truck that is the most common type owned by regular citizens.
A pickup truck and a minivan are often about the same size in cargo space, but minivans are slightly better because the table will be inside the car. Of course, if you tie the table and legs into the pickup truck’s cargo and use a tarp over it, then it won’t fly off even from a big bump on the road.
Anyways, you shouldn’t have problems fitting a ping pong table on the pickup truck’s cargo, especially if you can separate the halves.
That being said, a minivan and a pickup truck will most certainly be big enough to fit a ping pong table inside, whereas SUV might be depending on the size and features of your table. A regular city car often isn’t big enough to fit a table inside. However, you can always use a roof rack.
How to safely transport a table tennis table in a car
There are three main ways to transport a ping pong table from point A to B using a motor vehicle. If you have measured your ping pong table and cargo space, you should have an idea of whether it will fit in your car. Now, let’s take a look at the different options you have how to secure your table on your car.
1. Seperate your ping pong table
The best and easiest way, in my opinion, is to dismantle your ping pong table. This means separating the halves of your table, removing the legs, and dividing them into pieces that take less space individually.
I would start by separating the table into halves and examining the legs, how they are attached to the table, they can fold, etc. Then, I would take the biggest part of the legs out that can perhaps fold so it can go into a smaller space.
Some tables don’t require dismantling from the legs because they fold as a whole against the table. Anyways, I would separate the parts as far as it would be easy to fit them into the cargo.
Keep in mind that if you remove any screws, bolts, or springs, they will get lost easily, so make sure that you store them somewhere where they don’t get lost, and you can find them.
This is the best method for minivans and pickup trucks because it can be done quite easily. Even the larger SUVs might be able to fit a ping pong table inside the cargo.
2. Place the ping pong table on top of your minivan or SUV
Another great way to transport a ping pong table is to place it outside the roof rack instead of the cargo space. This can be done with a city car, SUV, or minivan, and it won’t be a space problem. Also, this won’t make you lose 3 or 5 seats of your minivan, but you can bring your whole family with you.
However, to do this, you will need a roof rack installed on your car’s roof. This one is a great roof rack from Amazon that will surely get the thing done.
Anyways, after your roof rack is installed, you can separate the table and secure it on the roof rack. You can place all the parts on the roof or take some of the leg parts inside the car. Whatever you see fit, but this really opens up the possibilities.
3. Transport your ping pong table as a whole
If you have an innovative ping pong table that has simple foldable legs, you might be able to fit it in your minivan or pickup truck as a whole.
Measure the cargo space on your car and see if it would fit there without separating the halves. Some tables can’t even be separated, so if you have enough space and folding legs, this is by far the easiest and fastest way to transport a ping pong table.
Other ping pong table transporting options
If you don’t have a car fit for transporting a table tennis table, don’t worry, there is a way around it.
You can always rent a truck of your choice to get the job done with or without a driver. You can hire a service that takes your table where you need to get it, or you can rent a truck and drive it yourself.
This is often really worth it because transporting a ping pong table on a small car can be a pain in your day, and renting a truck isn’t that expensive in most cases.
You can find great deals from places such as Craigslist or your local businesses.
